The polls may be close, but the money paints a different picture.
According to the latest campaign finance disclosures, Gov. Tim Walz has $4.4 million in the bank for his reelection bid. Dr. Scott Jensen, his Republican challenger, has $663,000.
Between Jan. 1 and May 31, Walz’s campaign raised $1.7 million, compared to the $471,000 raised by Jensen.
But the Republican doctor is not deterred by Walz’s fundraising advantage.
“This campaign continues to be one of the people,” he said. “Because of Gov. Walz and President Biden, every Minnesotan needs to figure out how to stretch their dollars further, and this campaign will be no different. We will make one dollar go further than Tim Walz and his DFL machine can do with ten dollars.”
Since entering the race, Jensen has raised a total of $1.7 million, which his campaign called “a historically impressive haul for a Republican gubernatorial challenger.”
Democrat Keith Ellison also has a cash advantage over Republican challenger Jim Schultz in the race for attorney general. Ellison raised $392,000 between Jan. 1 and May 31 and has $505,000 available. Schultz raised $155,000 and has $110,000 available.
A new poll, however, found that both races are in a dead heat as a majority of Minnesotans express doubt in the leadership of President Joe Biden.
