Republican-endorsed candidates Jeremy Munson and Denny McNamara come out on top on following the January 29th special election primaries.
House District 23B Special Election
With the House District 23B special election fast approaching, Jeremy Munson clinched the Republican nomination Monday night.
Munson, who had already been endorsed by the Republican Party, was up against Republican Scott Sanders. Munson beat Sanders 54 to 46 percent.
Munson is running to replace former Rep. Tony Cornish who resigned last year following allegations of sexual misconduct.
Munson will now face Democrat Melissa Wagner in the special election on February 12.
Senate District 54 Special Election
Denny McNamara secured the Republican nomination Monday night in the Senate District 54 special election.
McNamara, like Munson, had already been endorsed by the Republican Party in December. However, James E. Brunsgaard III joined the race as a Republican before the filing period ended, sending the two into a primary face-off.
McNamara defeated Brunsgaard III, winning over 85 percent of the vote. McNamara is running to replace former Sen. Dan Schoen who resigned last year following sexual assault allegations against him.
McNamara will go on to face Democrat Karla Bigham and Libertarian Emily Mellingen on February 12.
