Police said in a statement that a large crowd was present where a large party was being held nearby. A source later told Crime Watch Minneapolis that the incident “spilled out from an unlicensed Somali hookah lounge being run out of the back of a warehouse space” that houses an autism center by day. Police said no arrests were made at the time.

Several minutes later, a person was reported down from gunshot wounds a couple blocks away in a parking lot near Broadway Street Northeast and New Brighton Boulevard. Two people were initially reported shot, but only one was located and was reportedly shot in the head and neck.
Multiple video clips were obtained by Crime Watch that appeared to contain a barrage of gunshots near McDonalds, as well as the aftermath of the shooting on New Brighton Boulevard where automatic burst gunfire could be heard and a large crowd of Somalis appeared to be gathered.

Alpha News reached out to MPD for clarification on whether the shootings in Northeast were all connected, including the deceased person a few blocks away on Wilson Street but did not receive a response to that question in time for this report.
The MPD 911 dashboard showed that multiple nearby law enforcement agencies responded to assist Minneapolis police as the number of shootings unfolded early Sunday. A source also confirmed to Crime Watch that despite MPD having about 200 officers on duty Sunday, help was requested from Metro Transit police, Richfield, St. Anthony and U of M police departments, as well as the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office.
- Sunday night about 10:13 p.m., a male was reportedly stabbed during an assault near 26th and Park Avenue and was transported to the hospital by EMS with a facial laceration.

In addition to the violence, Crime Watch received several reports of dozens of vehicle windows smashed over the weekend in Northeast Minneapolis, Lowry Hill East, and St. Louis Park.
A statement provided to Alpha News through an MPD spokesperson on behalf of Interim Police Chief Bill Peterson stated:
“The Fourth of July is historically our busiest day of the year, and this weekend was no exception. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of our public safety partners, there was a strong and visible police presence throughout the city. Despite these efforts, several shootings occurred, including one tragic homicide. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones affected.
We will not tolerate violence in our community. Our investigators are working diligently to identify everyone responsible and ensure they are held accountable.
Increased enforcement and proactive partnerships helped prevent additional harm, including the recovery of numerous illegal firearms over the weekend. Our priority remains clear: ensuring that residents and community members feel safe in their homes, in their neighborhoods, and across the city.”
Alpha News will continue to follow developments in these incidents.
