Minneapolis’s “no-go zone” at 38th Street East and Chicago Avenue, the corner where George Floyd died last May, has a new addition to its concrete barriers.

A list of 24 “demands” is now posted at the entrance to the autonomous zone, according to Crime Watch Minneapolis. Police officers are often not welcome, even when violence occurs.

The demands allegedly represent everything activists want before they will give up the street they have occupied since May.

The demands call for firing four Bureau of Criminal Apprehension employees as well as Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman. The activists are also demanding $400,000 for investments to create new jobs in the area, and $300,000 for anti-racism training for the surrounding community.

“Establish and distribute a contingency fund for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) businesses located in the George Floyd Square,” demand number 17 reads.

They also want the street to remain blocked off until after all four officers charged in the death of George Floyd have been tried.

“As the city meets our demands for justice, the barricades can be negotiated for removal,” the document outlining the activists’ demands reads.

Three weeks ago, Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo said at a press conference, “Our community will not tolerate this anymore.”

“Rest assured. That intersection is going to open,” he said at the time.
