
A new poll shows a plurality of likely voters have an unfavorable opinion of Keith Ellison. Ellison is currently serving as the Minnesota attorney general and is running for reelection this year; he previously won the office in 2018 and 2022.
Conducted by The Tarrance Group from May 13-17, the new poll surveyed 514 likely Minnesota voters and had a margin of error of 4.5%. The Tarrance Group has previously conducted polls for state Republican parties, governors, and members of Congress.
Of the 514 people surveyed for the poll, 77% said they were “extremely likely” to vote in the upcoming November general election. Another 15.7% of respondents were “very likely” to vote, and the final 7.2% were “somewhat likely” to vote.
The new poll was shared exclusively with Alpha News.
According to the survey, 20.3% of respondents had a “strongly favorable” view of Ellison, and 18.3% had a “somewhat favorable” view of the attorney general. In total, 38.6% expressed a favorable view of Ellison.
However, 40.8% of those polled had a “strongly unfavorable” view of Ellison. Another 5.7% had a “somewhat unfavorable” of the attorney general. In total, 46.5% expressed an unfavorable opinion of Ellison.
Meanwhile, 8.1% of respondents had “no opinion” of Ellison, and another 6.9% had never heard of him.
When broken down by party, 66% of Democrats felt favorably toward Ellison, 17% had an unfavorable view, 9% had no opinion, and 8% had never heard of him. On the Republican side, 6% felt favorably toward Ellison, 81% had an unfavorable view, 7% had no opinion, and 5% had never heard of him.
Minnesotans concerned about fraud and cost of living
The poll also asked how concerned people were about fraud and the high cost of living. Specifically, the poll asked people to rate their concern on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being “extremely concerned,” 7-9 being “very concerned,” and 1-6 being “less concerned.”
According to the poll, 48.6% of respondents were “extremely concerned” by the high cost of living for everyday Minnesotans. Another 31.7% of those polled were “very concerned” by the high cost of living, and 19.8% were “less concerned.”

Meanwhile, 45.9% of likely voters were “extremely concerned” by fraud in taxpayer-funded state government programs. Another 18.2% of those polled were “very concerned” by fraud, and 35.9% were “less concerned.”
The Tarrance Group poll showed Republicans were more concerned with fraud while Democrats were more concerned with the high cost of living.
In total, 76% of Republicans were “extremely concerned” about fraud while 20% of DFLers felt the same. Additionally, 46% of Republicans were “extremely concerned” by the high cost of living while 50% of Democrats felt the same.
