The Republican Party of Minnesota is offering a $500 reward for information that leads to an arrest after it says a sign was stolen from its State Fair booth Friday night.
Security video released by the party shows a man standing at the GOP’s booth around 8:30 p.m. Friday and looking down at his phone. He then appears to begin removing pins holding up a sign that says, “Car tabs $99 or less,” a key policy proposal of Republican gubernatorial candidate Lisa Demuth.

The video released by the party shows the man tampering with the sign but doesn’t show him taking it. The party said the sign had been displayed at the booth for just one day.
“We knew Lisa Demuth’s $99-or-less car-tabs proposal was popular — we just didn’t know people would start stealing the signs,” said Minnesota GOP Chairman Alex Plechash.
The GOP said in a press release that its booth security first noticed the individual shown in the video earlier in the afternoon and alerted State Fair police to his “suspicious behavior.”
The individual was directed to leave the area but came back later, the party said.
The Republican Party said it has filed a police report and requested that charges be pursued.

Demuth, the current speaker of the Minnesota House, is running against Democrat Amy Klobuchar in November’s general election. Demuth unveiled her “affordability agenda” last month, which includes a proposal to cap car tab fees at $99.
