Shots fired inside Edina fitness club Wednesday night

Police said that the suspects fled in a vehicle.

Shots were fired inside an Edina, Minn., fitness club on Wednesday night, according to the Edina Police Department, who said there were no injuries reported during the incident that stemmed from an earlier disturbance.

Crime Watch first reported just after 8 p.m. that there was a citizen report of a large police presence responding to the area of LA Fitness, which is located on the 4100 block of West 76th Street. Crime Watch further updated that a source had disclosed that shots had been fired at the location and that several law enforcement agencies had responded to assist.

The Edina Police Department released an initial statement around 8:42 p.m., and later posted an update at about 9:50 p.m. stating that suspects from an earlier disturbance had returned, and a confrontation ensued that resulted in at least one shot being fired:

“Update at 9:50 p.m.: Around 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, Edina Police responded to a reported shooting at LA Fitness, 4175 W. 76th Street. Officers arrived and did not locate any victims or suspects. Initial information indicates there was a disturbance inside the facility earlier in the evening which resulted in the suspects leaving and returning. Upon returning, a confrontation occurred inside the facility where a gun was displayed and at least one shot was fired. The suspects ran out of the facility and left in a vehicle. Police are working to process the scene and review security footage. This incident remains under investigation; no other information is available at this time.
Around 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, Edina Police responded to a reported shooting in the 4100 block of West 76th Street. This is not an active shooter incident and it appears there are no injuries. Officers are investigating and will provide an update as more information becomes available.”
Police said that the suspects fled in a vehicle, and police did not indicate whether any suspects had been identified.
Crime Watch posted several statements from people who claimed to have been on site at the time of the shots fired incident who described the suspects as Somali males. One person told Crime Watch it was “chaos,” another said, “everyone was running out of the gym at once.”
