A St. Paul man has been sentenced to nearly six years in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release for being in possession of a firearm as a felon, U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger announced.
Ember Shawndale White, 23, was identified through surveillance video running from the scene of a shots fired incident on July 15, 2021, near Rice and Winnipeg streets in St. Paul. Video showed White holding a firearm as he ran toward a white Volkswagen Jetta. About a week later, White was arrested in the same vehicle and was in possession of a 9mm pistol.
At the time of the shots fired incident in St. Paul, White had been free on bail supplied by the Minnesota Freedom Fund in an unrelated case involving a prior felony charge of threats of violence. White had failed to appear at sentencing in the case two months prior and was wanted on a warrant for failure to appear at the time of the July 2021 incident.
Due to multiple prior felony convictions in Ramsey, Hennepin, and Dakota counties, White is prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition at any time, Luger said.
White pleaded guilty to the charge last November and will be required to serve a minimum of 85% of his sentence incarcerated before being eligible for release, as opposed to state sentencing which only requires offenders to serve two-thirds or less incarcerated.
