On Independence Day, a first-term Democratic congresswoman regurgitated vicious anti-American views to her 830,000 Twitter followers. These beliefs are not isolated on the left, which is moving to the fringe far more rapidly than conservatives.
Cori Bush spent the last five years causing mayhem with BLM, before using her socialist notoriety to win a House seat in “racist” America.
Neither Bush, nor Joe Biden, can name one person of any ethnicity or creed unfree to do anything they want right this minute. Unless a jury of your peers has convicted you of a crime, everybody can do or say anything they want in America.
The last vestiges of state-sanctioned discrimination in the United States were eradicated nearly 60 years ago. And outside of tribal villages in Africa and parts of the Islamic world, there are basically no people in powerful public or private sector positions that discriminate based solely on race. Furthermore, there are myriad institutional advantages given to minorities, so the left’s incessant claims of racism should cease.
An athlete called Gwen Berry disagrees. No one knew who she was a week ago, though her ignorance and grievance quickly made her heroic to America-hating athletes, pundits, and even the White House press secretary.
“What a ludicrous, shallow and divisive thing to say,” Steve Hilton said Sunday regarding Jen Psaki’s defense of Berry. “Our ideals are pretty high. They serve as a unifying aspiration for the whole nation. Can anyone name a single country on earth that offers more opportunity to those from any race and background than America?”
Then there’s noted racist and sexual harasser Touré Neblett. The former MSNBC anchor tweeted out “F–k Fourth of July” and claimed, “Not only were we not free, the whole reason the Colonies wanted independence was because Britain was moving toward abolishing slavery. Why would Black people celebrate a day so wrapped up in our enslavement?”
That’s a demonstrably false assertion, since the public affirmation of the Declaration of Independence’s principles led directly to abolition of slavery in parts of the U.S.
Any honest scholar, like George Mason University Prof. David Bernstein, also knows our Revolution was not fought primarily to prevent Britain from abolishing slavery in the colonies.
Catering to bored, affluent progressives, NPR claimed Sunday that the declaration is “a document with flaws and deeply ingrained hypocrisies” that “says all men are created equal — but women, enslaved people, Indigenous people and many others were not held as equal at the time.” Some right-leaning groups want to “defund” NPR after the controversial tweet.
Judging 17th and 18th century men by contemporary standards remains arrogant and intellectually lazy.
This followed a front page New York Times “news” story suggesting the American flag recently became a symbol of divisiveness.
Sarah Maslin Nir, a millennial educated in Manhattan’s top private schools, wrote that bunk after straying just a few miles east for her story.
In 1,600 banal words, riddled with clichés from someone who’s been steeped in journalistic controversy, she claims the flag is “a clue, albeit an imperfect one, to a person’s political affiliation in a deeply divided nation.”
Polling data actually shows roughly 80% of white folks, nearly 70% of Hispanics, and about 60% of blacks say the flag makes them feel proud.
Vivek Ramasamy, son of immigrants and an entrepreneurial millionaire by age 30, wants July to be “American Pride Month,” since today’s students learn so little about their country.
“Kids can’t just take it for granted; you didn’t just inherit this country,” he explained. “You ought to take a role in building it. And one way is learning about it first.”
People, especially ones like Rep. Ilhan Omar — who recently rehashed her warped version of patriotism — that benefit from America’s goodwill and unparalleled opportunities, yet remain full of contempt, would also find “American pride month” more valuable than critical race bigotry.
“The left is choosing to leave behind the American experiment and the American experience and, concurrently, attempting to hijack our institutions to leave too,” Erick Erickson wrote Monday. “The nation has always had problems, but it is far better than any alternative and always moving forward to a better day. As the left forgets this, abandons patriotism, and turns hostile to what the nation means, it can expect far more electoral and even cultural losses.”
Instead of acknowledging the visionary egalitarianism of the Founders, leftists instead prefer to live unhappy provincial lives and make the country worse.
