UPDATE: The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office released a statement Friday saying Elevoun Quinnell Wren has been charged with one count of second-degree intentional murder for the fatal shooting of John Stroud in Edina.

According to the criminal complaint:

Surveillance footage reviewed by police shows Stroud interacting with Wren, who was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt. Wren was joined by three other men.

Wren and Stroud then got into a physical altercation, with Stroud putting his arms around Wren’s neck at one point. The two then disappeared behind a pole before Stroud fell to the ground. Wren then stood over Stroud with his right arm outstretched and something in his right hand. The three other men were standing to the left of the pole.

Wren and the three others then took off running away from the camera. Law enforcement executed a search warrant on Wren’s apartment where they located a pistol under a grey hooded sweatshirt.

In a separate statement, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office said the three others who were arrested will be released.

“Both our office and Edina Police are in agreement that there is not evidence at this time to support charges against the three individuals who were originally arrested,” the statement said. “This is a complex matter and the investigation will continue. Those three individuals will be released from custody today.”

According to the charges, Stroud was shot multiple times in the chest.

Four men are in custody following a fatal shooting midday Wednesday at a low-income transitional housing apartment complex across the street from Southdale Mall in Edina, Minn.

Around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the Edina Police Department (EPD) warned on social media of a large police presence in the area of the 3300 block of West 66th Street and asked the public to stay away.

Later updates from EPD confirmed that a fatal shooting had taken place and that suspects had initially fled the scene. Three of the suspects were arrested Wednesday evening, and a fourth was arrested Thursday afternoon.

The arrested parties include Quentin James Hamilton, 22, Alphonsus Lynell Clark, 20, Brandon Derell Moore, 21, and Elevoun Quinnell Wren, 22, all on pending murder charges.

The decedent has also been identified by friends and family online as John William Westly Stroud, 22.

Details are limited at this point on what led up to the shooting, but court records indicate that at least two of the suspects have recent or ongoing criminal cases.

Stroud was also arrested by Metro Transit police earlier this month and charged with fifth-degree assault. A criminal complaint was not immediately available in the case, but following his release from jail on zero bail, Stroud posted a bizarre video on his public Facebook page ranting about gangs and cartels.

Other court records indicate both Moore and Stroud were in the process of separately being evicted from the same address where the shooting took place.

The apartment complex where the shooting took place is managed by Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative, which claims on its website to “create and advance equitable housing in Minnesota.”

Alpha News will continue to follow the case for updates on charges.
